Why Sustainability Isn’t Just a Trend—It’s Personal
There’s something powerful about watching the Earth wake up in spring. Trees bloom again. The light changes. Every year on Earth Day, we’re reminded that this planet—our home—is something worth fighting for.
As we reflect on the significance of Earth Day and the importance of protecting our planet, it’s clear that sustainability is about more than just reducing waste or conserving resources—it’s about creating a world that values everyone. And for me, sustainability isn’t just a buzzword or a set of actions; it’s deeply personal.
It’s about legacy.
It’s about dignity.
And yes—it’s about my son.
That’s why, in the spirit of Earth Day and the ongoing sustainability movement, I created Route T21—a space I’m calling "The Eco-Inclusive Journey." It’s not just a blog, but a place where I’ll be sharing my personal experiences and insights, rooted in the belief that true sustainability isn’t complete without inclusion. It’s about making space for people of all abilities, and that journey starts with my son, Tommy.
The Story Behind Route T21
When I started Route T21, it wasn’t to jump on a trend. I built it because I saw a gap—a painful, wide gap. My son Tommy has multiple disabilities—Autism, Down syndrome, and a brain damage. He’s beautiful, smart, and capable—but he lives in a world that often doesn’t make space for people like him. Especially not in business. Especially not in sustainability.
The Green Movement loves to talk about inclusion, but you don’t see many voices of people with disabilities at the table. That’s why Tommy and I pulled up our chairs.
Route T21 is where sustainability meets real inclusion—not as a side note, but as the whole point.
Sustainability Isn’t Perfection—It’s Progress
Let’s be honest: going eco-friendly can feel intimidating. You might think,
“I’m too busy to be zero-waste.”
“I can’t afford to buy all organic.”
“I don’t even know where to start.”
I get it. I’m a full-time working mom, a full-time Tommy’s caregiver, and writing a blog with my heart and mind. I don’t have time for performative environmentalism. But I do have time for purposeful action, and an imperfect, but impactful journey to transform everything around me with love and creativity.
Whether that’s switching to recycled paper, choosing to buy fewer but better things, or supporting small makers who care—it all adds up.
That’s what I want this space to be for you: a place where sustainability meets reality. No judgment. No shame. Just real talk, real tools, and real heart.
